(My Knight Jointer, 24" long, 2.5" iron, Purpleheart, brass cap. Haven't actually had the opportunity to use it yet, what with shop-moving-activities...)

I have had my eye on the smoothing planes. Maybe I'll get one as a b'day gift later this year. I would love to hear a review of these planes.

Mattia, I don't know how you can resist making at least a few shavings with a new tool like that. You must have more self-restraint than I can claim.

Good Golly! Exactly like that one! That's a better photo of the plane than any on their site. They should hire you. That screw, or bit of hardware, on the top makes me wonder, is the mouth adjustable?

Hey-

Since it's show and tell, here is my all Ipe 50 degree iron smoothing plane from Mr. Knight. It is an early one without the adjustable mouth and with the old style wooden wedge to hold the iron in place. It is about the size of a Stanley #4 but wider. It's my favorite plane and slices through anything except African blackwood and extremely figured bubinga and purpleheart. I haven't found a plane that will work on those 3 yet.

Well, she ain't pretty but I do loves her.

So, should I file a claim with USPS? Steve was thinking about kits a while back, and I asked for one right away.( I'm not sure he still likes that idea) If I use some concentrated care, I should end up with a great jointer. I keep wanting to inlay some abalone here and there on it.MT

Not been online much, but yes, the mouth is indeed adjustable, and sliding. Very nice tool, and Steve is great to correspond with.

I gotta say that the sheer size of that plane wasn't clear to me until I opened the box. And I still haven't been able to go test it, although I've got piles of Khaya going 'joint me! Joint me!'. Alas, no time to actually head to to the house/build the shop; exams next week!

Mattia-regarding the exams-as we sat here,"wing em." Go try out that plane. Actually my order for a kit with Steve started out as a jack kit like this. I can lop some off front and rear and still do that. I just don't know if I can bear to do that, although it would give me a start on wood for a pocket plane. What is your vote? I have 608 and 606 Bedrocks and an adjustable ECE "try"(24")plane now. Mike T(Heck, I'll take suggestions from all!)

Call me simple, but I start to drool at the sight of a set of carving chisels and gouges with shiny, gleaming sharp edges..

There's a lot you can do with chisels...
